JPEG XL export for macOS
Convert JXL to JPG, PNG, or GIF on Mac
Image2JXL exports JPEG XL files to common compatibility formats. Choose JPG, PNG, or GIF based on the destination workflow and process the files locally on your Mac.
Why use Image2JXL for this workflow?
Choose a compatible output
Export to JPG for common photo workflows, PNG for lossless pixel output, or GIF when that format matches the source and destination requirements.
Handle JXL batches
Add multiple files or folders and track the result of each conversion in one local workflow.
Restore eligible JPEG sources
When a JXL contains reversible JPEG reconstruction data, Image2JXL can restore the original JPEG instead of creating a new JPEG encoding.
How to convert on Mac
- Open Image2JXL and add one or more JXL files, or drag in a folder.
- Choose JPG, PNG, or GIF as the export format.
- Review the output folder and available conversion settings.
- Run the export and inspect the resulting files in the destination workflow.
Important format details
Original JPEG restoration is conditional
Byte-for-byte JPEG restoration is available only when the JXL was made using reversible JPEG transcoding and contains the necessary reconstruction data.
Other JXL files use normal export
If lossless JPEG reconstruction is unavailable, JPG output is a normal JPEG export. It should not be described as restoration of an original file.
Metadata support varies by output
Supported EXIF and XMP metadata can be preserved for JXL-to-JPEG and JXL-to-PNG workflows. GIF export does not promise metadata preservation.
