Image2JXL Features
Image2JXL is a native macOS JPEG XL converter for local image batches. It is built for users who need predictable conversion, private file handling, and clear format boundaries.
Local Conversion
Image2JXL converts selected files on your Mac. It does not upload files for conversion.
Import Files And Folders
Import individual files or folders. The app also supports drag and drop for files and folders.
JPEG XL Encoding
Image2JXL can convert JPEG, PNG/APNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, EXR, NetPBM (PPM, PNM, PGM, PAM), and PFM inputs to JPEG XL through its current pipeline.
BMP and TIFF are decoded through macOS ImageIO before JPEG XL pixel encoding.
JPEG XL Export
Convert JPEG XL files back to JPEG, PNG, or GIF.
Metadata Behavior
Preserve supported EXIF and XMP metadata where the selected conversion path supports it. Metadata preservation is supported for image-to-JPEG XL, JPEG XL-to-JPEG, and JPEG XL-to-PNG paths; GIF export does not promise metadata preservation.
Lossless Wording
JPEG input can use reversible JPEG XL lossless recompression. In Lossless JPEG mode, the app accepts JPEG/JFIF input. Other supported input formats may use pixel-lossless encoding when supported, but this does not promise byte-for-byte restoration of the original container.
Unsupported Formats
Image2JXL does not currently accept WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, TGA, PSD, RAW, SVG, PDF, or ICO as image-to-JPEG XL inputs.
Pro workflow helpers
Pro options cover advanced workflow helpers such as converting more than 10 queued files, preserving folder structure, and moving originals to Trash after successful conversion.
