Image2JXL FAQ
1. What is Image2JXL?
Image2JXL is a native macOS utility focused on local image conversion with JPEG XL support. It converts supported image files to JPEG XL and exports JPEG XL files back to common compatibility formats.
2. What can it convert?
Image2JXL converts JPEG, PNG/APNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, EXR, NetPBM, and PFM inputs to JPEG XL. It can also export JPEG XL files to JPEG, PNG, or GIF.
3. Does it upload my files?
No. All conversions are performed locally on your Mac. Files are never uploaded for conversion.
4. What formats are intentionally unsupported?
Image2JXL does not currently accept WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, TGA, PSD, RAW, SVG, PDF, or ICO as image-to-JPEG XL inputs.
5. Can I convert folders?
Yes. You can import individual files or folders, drag files and folders into the app, and run batch conversions with per-file status.
6. Is metadata preserved?
Image2JXL keeps supported EXIF and XMP metadata where supported by the selected conversion path. Metadata preservation is supported for image-to-JPEG XL, JPEG XL-to-JPEG, and JPEG XL-to-PNG paths; GIF export does not promise metadata preservation.
7. What is Lossless JPEG?
For JPEG inputs, Image2JXL offers reversible JPEG XL lossless behavior and can preserve the original JPEG codestream as part of that workflow. In Lossless JPEG mode, the app accepts JPEG/JFIF input. For non-JPEG inputs, conversion can use pixel-lossless encoding when supported, but it does not guarantee byte-for-byte restoration of the original file container, compression settings, chunks, animation structure, high bit depth, floating-point samples, or metadata.
8. Is there a Pro plan?
Yes. Core conversion remains the main workflow. Pro-gated options include advanced workflow helpers such as converting more than 10 queued files, preserving folder structure, and moving originals to Trash after successful conversion.
9. Is Image2JXL a cloud converter?
No. Image2JXL is a Mac app and conversion is performed locally on your device.
10. Can I use it on iPhone/iPad?
No. Image2JXL is a macOS app.
