Image2WebP now preserves EXIF and GPS metadata when converting images to WebP or AVIF — and when converting WebP/AVIF back to JPG or PNG. Your camera data, location info, and copyright tags survive the conversion intact.

Photographers and archivists know the pain: convert an image, lose the metadata. Camera model, shutter speed, GPS coordinates, copyright info — all stripped away by converters that only care about pixels.

Image2WebP now solves this. Starting with the latest update, EXIF and GPS data are preserved across all supported conversion directions — to WebP, to AVIF, and back to JPG or PNG.

What Is EXIF Data and Why Does It Matter?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata is embedded in image files by cameras and phones. It stores:

FieldExample
Camera modeliPhone 16 Pro, Sony A7R V
Lens & focal length24mm f/1.8
Shutter speed & ISO1/500s, ISO 400
GPS coordinates37.7749° N, 122.4194° W
Date & time2026-04-15 14:32:07
Copyright© 2026 Your Name

Losing this data means losing the story behind the photo — and for professional photographers, losing licensing and attribution information.

What's New: Full EXIF Preservation

Image → WebP / AVIF

Convert JPG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, PSD, or RAW to WebP or AVIF and all EXIF metadata carries over — including GPS coordinates, camera settings, and copyright tags.

WebP / AVIF → JPG / PNG

Converting back from WebP or AVIF to JPG or PNG? EXIF data transfers back as well. No metadata is lost in round-trip conversions.

Why This Matters for Web Use

WebP and AVIF are the modern web formats — smaller files, faster loads, better Core Web Vitals. But until now, converting to these formats for your website meant stripping the metadata from your master files if you weren't careful.

With EXIF preservation:

  • Photographers can deliver WebP files to clients without losing attribution
  • Travel bloggers keep GPS tags intact for geotagged photo libraries
  • Agencies maintain copyright metadata through format conversions
  • Archivists preserve camera records without keeping bloated originals

How to Use

  1. Open Image2WebP on your Mac
  2. Drag and drop your images (or a folder)
  3. Choose output format: WebP, AVIF, JPG, or PNG
  4. Enable Preserve EXIF Data in settings
  5. Convert — metadata included

That's it. No configuration files. No command-line flags. EXIF data travels with your images.
